How this predictor works, and what it will not guess
Percentile to rank is exact. NTA defines your percentile as the percentage of candidates who scored at or below you in your session. So the rank follows arithmetically:
rank ≈ (100 − percentile) ÷ 100 × total candidates
For 2026 that denominator is 15,38,468 — the number of unique candidates who appeared, as published by NTA with the Session 2 result. So 99 percentile is about rank 15,385, and 90 percentile about 1,53,847.
Marks to percentile cannot be stated exactly, and we don't.JEE Main runs across many shifts of differing difficulty, and NTA normalises between them. The raw score distribution has never been published. Any site telling you "170 marks = 99 percentile" is estimating from self-reported data and presenting it as fact. We would rather give you the part that is knowable.
A closing rank is not a guarantee.This is the sense in which the tool "predicts": it shows you where a branch closed in one particular year, and you infer from that. Seat counts, applicant numbers and paper difficulty all move year to year. Treat the results as the range you were competitive in last year, not a promise about next year.
